25 Main Street S., Princeton N0J 1V0 Website: www.ocl.net/projects/princetonm Did you know that the area near Princeton was home to an American Civil War hero? During the American Civil War, Newton Wolverton was one of the estimated fifty thousand Canadians who served on the side of the Union. In 1862, the young 16 year old was appointed by a newly formed Canadian delegation to approach President Abraham Lincoln to state their concerns. In retaliation for the November 1861 discovery of two confederate emissaries, that were bound for Europe aboard the Trent, a British mail packet ship, some of Lincoln’s top officials’ advocated war against Great Britain and possible annexation of the British North American colonies if the war was lost to the southern Confederacy. To learn more about Princeton and area’s involvement in this war and experience Civil War battle re-enactments, visit the Princeton Museum. While here, view the exhibit on the infamous Benwell murder and trial, the Frank Cowan Exhibit Gallery and the theatre.
