Experience 19th and 20th century rural and town life here at the Norwich Museum. The Norwich area was settled by Quakers arriving in Canada from the United States at the beginning of the 19th century. Travel by covered wagon from New York State to the backwoods of Upper Canada with Quaker settler Peter Lossing, visit a Quaker Meeting House, saltbox house, blacksmith’s shop, and agricultural barn. And while you’re here, research genealogical and local history at the archives next door.

Did you know that Herbert Hoover’s mother was a Quaker born in this community? This is just one of the fascinating connections that you might uncover during your visit. The Museum gift shop specializes in local handicrafts, including pieces made in the Museum's own blacksmith shop!

So come on and step into the past! Norwich & District Museum also invites you to see and possibly buy handcrafted items made by the local Amish community.
